Unleashing the Future of Mobility: Celebrating a Transformative Signing Ceremony for Digital Infrastructure in Malaysia

On 31st July 2023 (Monday), @GLT Law had the immense pleasure of attending a groundbreaking signing ceremony at Hilton Kuala Lumpur that marked a pivotal collaboration in Malaysia’s digital transformation journey. Our @Jie Han Yeow and @Kai Lin Teoh were honoured to witness the momentous collaboration between our client, WePay System Sdn Bhd (“WePay“), @Theta Edge Bhd (“Theta”), a member of Lembaga @Tabung Haji, and its international technology associates, to develop a fully integrated digital platform for Mobility-As-A-Service  (“MaaS”) in Malaysia. This collaboration represents a major milestone as it is set to revolutionize Malaysia’s digital infrastructure.

Excitingly, Theta has secured WePay’s commitment to invest in the project through @Haitong International Securities Group Limited, a prominent Hong Kong-based securities company with a global financial servicing network across 15 countries. With an estimated investment of RM 700 million, this collaboration will pave way for a significant development and implementation of the MaaS digital platform and mobility infrastructure enhancement.

Theta’s group chief executive officer, @Nuraslina Zainal Abidin, shared her vision for the MaaS digital platform, which goes beyond mobility services. The platform aspires to create a one-stop shop for all user needs, to provide real-time information enabling seamless connections with multiple applications and services via a single platform, and to incorporate e-commerce and e-finance applications. Furthermore, by embracing environmental and sustainability-driven business goals, the MaaS initiative aligns with their commitment to reducing carbon footprints and advancing eco-system segments.

Datuk Md @Zubir Ansori Yahaya, the chairman of WePay, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to drive digital transformation in Malaysia and contribute to local talent development in new technology innovation. This opens the door to advanced technologies that will shape and develop solutions aligned with the nation’s agenda.
