Financial Times Names GLT Law As One of the Most Innovative Asia Pacific Law Firms

Petaling Jaya, 5 May 2019: Gan, Lee & Tan (GLT Law) is honoured to have been placed in top 5 innovative law firms in the Asia Pacific and was commended at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers (Asia Pacific) Awards 2019, in the “Innovation in the Business of Law: Technology” category for pioneering creative solutions to meet client needs.

GLT Law is the only Malaysian law firm listed in the innovative law firm category, alongside other notable big firms and corporations including Gilbert + Tobin, Minter Ellison, Pinsent Masons, Allen & Overy, L’Oreal, Uber and DBS Bank.

This is the first year that GLT Law has entered the awards.

GLT Law was commended by the Financial Times for its work on the two innovative legal tech products: AI Chatbot and Online Legal Health Check Assessment Tool, which are designed to help small and medium businesses to navigate through legal hurdles. GLT Law is the 1st Malaysian law firm that provides these free online tools.

Using natural language processing and machine learning techniques powered by IBM Watson Assistant, the AI Chatbot allows users to find common answers to certain legal questions covering 6 areas of law.

The legal health check tool is built around an interactive set of questionnaires that specifically targets 9 common areas of business gaps that usually fall short of legal compliance. Users will just need to answer some simple questions for 5-10 minutes and GLT Law’s lawyers will assess the answers and generate a free legal health check report within 1 working day.

The recognition by Financial Times injects a strong motivation for GLT Law to continue to push the boundaries towards the forefront of providing better and more accessible legal services.

Edwin Lee, the Managing Partner of GLT Law had this to say about the award:

Innovation is at the heart of our culture. We are grateful that Financial Times recognizes our efforts in developing innovative approaches as we continue to embrace the challenge of finding new and creative ways to provide effective legal solutions for our clients. It further recognizes us as an innovative and forward-thinking law firm and reflects our commitment to delivering quality legal services through innovative technology.”
