GLT Law wins transactional boutique law firm of the year award

Media Statement: GLT Law Wins Top Legal Honour

GLT Law, a young and forward-thinking law firm in Malaysia has been named the Transactional Boutique Law Firm of the Year for 2019. The prestigious honour was presented by Asian Legal Business and Thompson Reuters for their 6th Annual Malaysia Law Awards held on 28 March 2019 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

GLT Law’s winning submission for Transactional Boutique Law Firm of the year highlights some of its successful international transactions for digital token offerings, a niche and leading edge area of practice that has generated a lot of legal curiosity and regulatory attention recently. The award came as the firm celebrated its first year anniversary.

The awards were adjudicated by a highly respected panel of judges from the industry itself and pay tribute to the outstanding performance of private practitioners and in-house teams in Malaysia. Many of the top law firms were represented on the roll call of winners.

GLT was also a finalist in the category for Rising Law Firm of the Year.

Some of the clients that GLT Law had advised throughout the year include Crowdvilla, a Singapore-based foundation on tokenisation of shared holiday homes; QIQ, a Singapore-based shared mobility project utilizing blockchain technology; Sinegy, the largest crypto trading desk in Malaysia as well as Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia.

Recognition was also given to GLT Law for being the first and the only Malaysian member of the Global Legal Blockchain Consortium, where GLT Law will be working with them to develop and promote governing standards for blockchain technology in the legal services sector.

In accepting the award, the name partners Gan Ming Chiek and Edwin Lee said:

“We have a great desire to make legal practice relevant to our time, especially with emerging technologies such as blockchain. We take great pride in providing prompt, creative and effective solutions for our clients and with this award, it further gives us the motivation to continue to work harder to provide excellent legal services. Getting an award in the 1st year of our establishment would never have been possible without the continuous support and confidence from our clients and industry partners in our work.”

Most of the transactions were engaged with its strategic partner Celebrus Advisory, a bespoke compliance-first consulting firm for blockchain technology. Its managing director Alex Lee remarked:

“The win is truly well-deserved but hardly surprising. They do outstanding work. GLT has always been and will continue to be an integral part of our team in delivering excellence to clients in this space.”

Celebrus Advisory was recently recognised as the Top 10 Best Blockchain Technology Consulting/Service Companies in the Asia Pacific for 2019 by APAC CIO Outlook, a Silicon Valley-based trade journal for CIOs, CTOs and other senior-level IT buyers across the APAC region. GLT Law is proud to have partnered up with Celebrus Advisory and together, they hope to continue to provide high-quality advisory and compliance work for their clients in this exciting Industry 4.0 technological era.
