BIOGRAPHY

Prior to joining Gan, Lee & Tan (GLT Law), Jie Han practised in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group of Wong & Partners (a member firm of Baker & Mckenzie).

Jie Han has expansive experience in areas relating to corporate & commercial law, intellectual property law and data privacy regulatory & compliance, with emphasis on the fields of information technologies and emerging technologies. Jie Han had the opportunity to work with various multinational corporations on secondments, which led him to gain first-hand insight and opportunities to solve legal and operational issues on the field.

  • Acted for the largest insurance data processing company in Malaysia on the implementation of a fraud detection software to be used by all insurance and takaful service providers in Malaysia.
  • Acted for a data centre development and management company in their corporate exercises, including advising on their funding structure.
  • Acted for a leading media broadcaster in various transactions, including a joint venture with a traditional print media company and a share purchase of a content production company.
  • Acted for and advising an international trading company on their entry into the Malaysian market.
  • Assisted a multinational baby formula milk manufacturer on a company-wide review of all contracts relating to its business, and to prepare updated template contracts to be used in all aspects of the company’s business.
  • Assisted an international convenience store franchise chain to obtain the required registrations and approvals to sell its franchise in Malaysia.
  • Advised on issues relating to the trademarks of a newly revamped mall operated by a public-listed company.
  • Advised a healthcare company with on their legal issues pertaining to its day-to-day operations.
  • Advised a public-listed company owned cloud computing service provider and consultant on various contractual issues with legacy documents.
  • Advised a leading international drug manufacturer on personal data protection and pharmaceutical regulatory issues relating to the sale of their products via e-commerce websites.
  • Advised clients on compliance with Malaysian corporate anti-corruption legislation.
  • Advised international clients on the areas of telecommunications and personal data protection law applicable to emerging technologies and IoT.
  • Advised a leading multinational drug manufacturer on the regulatory aspects of: (a) the proposed sale of its consumer healthcare business, and (b) the transfer of its “established medicines” assets as part of a global restructuring exercise.
  • Advised a telecommunications service provider on an investigation relating to an alleged breach of the Malaysian personal data protection legislation.
  • Prepared and negotiated agreements for the protection of intellectual property, information and database rights for various clients, including software development, software supply and software maintenance agreements.
